RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE COLORADO HEALTH CARE COOPERATIVE
WHEREAS
- The average annual premium for family health insurance in 2011 was more than $15,000–an increase of 9%–while average family income in Colorado declined
- One third of all Coloradans lack adequate health insurance, that is, 829,000 Coloradans have no health insurance at all and 674,686 are underinsured (Colorado Health Access Survey, 2011, Colorado Trust and Colorado Health Institute )
- 12.4% of all Coloradans are on Medicaid (Colorado Fiscal Policy Institute, 2011)
- The current system is unsustainable—by 2016, even with PPACA reform 350,000-400,000 Coloradans will be uninsured (Gruber, J. 9/16/11 to Colorado Health Benefit Exchange Boards)
AND WHEREAS The Colorado Health Care Cooperative Would Provide
- A statewide, unified, non-profit, universal health care system for Colorado
- A health financing system operated by the members, for the members, with member interest as the focus
- Quality, affordable, sustainable, universal health care
- Economic relief for Colorado businesses and schools
- Quality jobs that stay in Colorado because health-care money stays in Colorado
- Transparency, accountability, fairness in health care
- Justifiable pride in “Coloradans taking care of Coloradans”
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT
WE SUPPORT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A COLORADO HEALTH
CARE COOPERATIVE BY BALLOT MEASURE NOVEMBER 2013.
